### How is air turnover calculated?

Air turnover (or air change rate /h) shows the part of the total air that is being changed in a room per hour. The value is the fraction between exchanged air and the volume of the room. A typical air turnover ranges between 0.2 and 0.8. The basic air turnover rate in a room is calculated from the time when this net empty – exactly just after the last person has left the room. This method is based on the fact that we, humans, discharge a considerable amount of CO2. This can eventually be tracked by quick rise in CO2 concentrations when persons are present. In nature the CO2 level about 400 ppm, while this level in a room typically reaches 700-800 ppm or more (ppm = parts per million). This means that the 400 ppm = 0,4 per mille. When we leave a room the value drops towards the 400 ppm of nature. The speed of which the CO2 drops can be converted to the air turnover of the room. By the use of algorithms the IC-Meter shows when the room is empty as well as how the CO2 level drops. By comparing a number of these situation, in which persons leave the room, the basic air turnover of the room can be calculated. Normally, the tightness of a building will be controlled at the building using a special gas. IC-Meter makes this process somewhat smarter by replacing this gas with people’s natural CO2 discharge at the same time as these calculations happen automatically and constantly.

### How many IC-meter should be installed in a property?

IC meter is designed to measure the analyses in a room or a smaller housing. For larger workplaces and homes in several floors, there is need for more IC-Meters. Air moves smoothly around in a building. The problem is the rooms where the doors are often closed. Here, the indoor climate can vary considerably in rooms close to each other. Start by buying one IC-meter, and then you can top up later if you wish to zoom in on specific rooms.

### What is the difference between IC-Meter VIEW and IC-Meter MASTER VIEW?

The detailed data is displayed in the IC-Meter VIEW, which is your personal view. Here you can see the indoor climate measurements and forecasts of climate for the day, the local weather forecast, statistics and ratios calculated for ventilation. This is also where you make setup allows viewing rights to others, etc. MASTER VIEW is a summary view, which only shows the monthly statistics. It is aimed specifically at users with many IC-Meters, which it supplies an overview, but one line per meter. For apartments is particularly true that landlords alone must see monthly statistics in Master VIEW while tenants must see the detailed data on their own homes.

### If the box doesn't send data - IC-Meter mobile (GSM)

1. Is the SIM card in? (Someone may have taken it).
2. Does the SIM card fit properly? (Try pressing it out and in with your fingernail).
3. Is the SIM card active? (Check with the telecompany or try with another SIM card). If you use ‘talk-time’ SIM cards, please be aware that speed may decrease when the agreed amount of data is being used.
4. Is the mobile coverage weak? (try to check with a regular mobile phone).
5. Has the box been moved? (if yes, check the mobile coverage on the new location).
6. Is the USB plug connected to the power supply and not to the PC? Is there power on the wall outlet?
7. Has the box been dropped on the floor?
8. Does the LED at the bottom of the IC-Meter box light or flash when the power is on? (If not, check the power supply or try with another power supply).
• When the power is turned on, it lights yellow followed by yellow slow flashing
• Shortly afterwards, it flashes fast green (upload attempt) – typically 1-3 minutes.
• When connected to the IC-Meter server, it lights solid green – and data is being transmitted.
• Finally, the lamp turns off
• If error (no response from the server), the LED flashes yellow and then lights solid yellow.

In case of no data connection the box continues measuring and stores data for up to 7 days in its own little memory. When connection is restored, data is automatically uploaded. Please note that it may take some hours before all data is restored.

### Can IC-Meter handle other sensors and meters?

IC-Meter is an open IT concept that makes the integration possible between the data that IC-Meter measures, retrieves and calculates. This data can be combined with other knowledge sources and also with analysis and operation tools of other suppliers. In order to ensure complete compatibility with other meters og operation units at the clients’ – e.g. energy meters, ventilation systems, heat pumps, etc. all integration and communication between are carried out in the “cloud” between the IC-Meter server and the IT system of the supplier. This offers some evident advantages. First of all, the client does not need to be involved in the setup as this taken care of by the suppliers. Each one of them that their data is correct after which the information is exchanged between the systems as web services. Secondly, the “cloud” concept assures the compatibility in relation with existing as well as with future products and knowledge sources. This also goes for brand new products for which the interface is not yet in place. For these situations, IC-Meter clients can export their own IC-Meter data to external systems that are under development. In third quarter of 2013, IC-Meter presents a new energy module which IC-Meter data is combined records of the actual heat consumption of buildings. The last mentioned data is retrieved, amongst others, from remote read energy meters of energy plants or from IC-Meters “digital oil meter”.

### Prices for the ongoing operation of IC-Meter?

There is no payment for the ongoing operation of the IC-Meter. The IC-Meter is sold with a one off sales price. This price includes the ongoing operation of server, retrieving of measured data, calculation of key values, archiving of statistics, storing of the detailed data in a month as well as it includes the standard facility for the data export. IC-Meter would only charge beyond the fix sales price in case you wish that we should save your data over longer periods of time or a special web site or similar.

### Who can view my data?

All data belongs to the client and is only viewable for the client. All application are related to the user and protected by password. The owner has the possibility to present part of the data for selected persons and to publish it. It is not recommended to share the detailed data with other persons than the ones you fully trust – a burglar would have great interest in knowing if anybody’s home. You can share the data the following ways: In the IC-Meter box you will find a sticker with a QR code. The idea is that you stick this on your door or similar. The persons who passes by your door can with their smartphone picture the QR code and get view of the month statistics or the actual values.  If you wish to activate this function, go to the Setting and choose “Share Public Statistics” or “Share Public All”. You can also give another person access to view all your data. This you also do from the Settings where you write username on the user you are giving these rights (but do not modify the settings or forward them to third persons). The person to receive rights as reader of your data should be subscribed as IC-Meter user whether they own an IC-Meter or not.

The IC-Meter concept has a default classification defined by The Danish Technology University (DTU), Center for Indoor Climate and Energy. These intervals reflect what is good for people, the building and the environment. They are dependent on outdoor weather conditions, and are adjusted every month.
